General entry requirements
For all Saxion pathways the following general entry requirements are necessary:
• The student must demonstrate that he/she has the ability, motivation and determination to successfully complete the course;
• The student must meet the requirements for Dutch higher education through a diploma of secondary education/high school diploma with good results, such as for Dutch students VWO, HAVO or MBO and for foreign students diplomas which are equivalent to e.g. the German Arbitur (algemeine Hochschulreife), the British GCE A-levels or (I) GCSE grades A, B or C, the French Baccalauréat, or the American High School (top stream or plus 1 year’s college);
• The student must have sufficient English language skills for the specific course. For both Bachelor and Master Courses the entry requirement is an IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent in another language test (TOEFL, etc.).
Specific Entry Requirements to the International Courses
Next to the general entry requirements, which apply to all students, for each level of entrance specific requirements are needed.
1. Entrance to the Preparatory Courses:
1. Preparatory Year: Minimum English requirement is IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL 450;
2. Preparatory Semester: Minimum English requirement is IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 500;
3. Preparatory Short Track: Minimum English requirement is IELTS 5.5 (with at least band 5.0 for listening and speaking) or TOEFL 500.
2. Entrance to the first year of the 4-year Bachelor Courses:
1. A diploma of secondary education with the required subjects, these vary per course.
3. Entrance to the final year Bachelors:
1. Having succesfully completed three years of higher education in the discipline of further study.
2. Or a Bachelor Degree in a relevant branch of study.
4. Entrance to the Master Courses
1. A Bachelor Degree in a field related to the discipline of study.
The student's qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific Course on the basis of provided Diplomas, Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and if necessary an Intake Interview.
You can apply for the course of your choice by filling out Studdex Application Form. Besides that, you'll have to submit the following documents to complete your application:
• 1 copy of passport (your personal data page)
• 1 legalized copy of High School/Middle School diploma and grade list
• 1 legalized copy of all Higher Education qualification and grade list (in English)
• Curriculum Vitae
• Proof of English language proficiency: (TOEFL, IELTS); you have to submit original documents, or legalised copies. Normal copies will not be accepted)!
Visa
If you wish to come to the Netherlands to study at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, you need to check if you need a visa and a residence permit. If you are a citizen or an official resident of a country not belonging to the EU or EEA countries, you require an 'Authorisation for temporary stay' or entry visa (MVV). With this entry visa you are allowed to enter the Netherlands and apply for a residence permit. The application for the residence permit is compulsory.
Insurance
Dutch law requires every citizen to be insured for at least Health Care and Liability. European students can take out their own insurance. Non-European students will be insured by Saxion Universities’ International Office. Saxion will only be able to apply for your insurance if your visa and residence permit application are handled by the International Office.
Health and Liability Insurance
Basic health insurance covers all general costs of doctor visits, prescription medicine, basic dental care and accident and casualty care at the Hospital. The University will arrange for students to be registered with a family doctor who is willing to acceptpatients.
Liability insurance is essential in the Netherlands, because whenever someone damages property (of others) or injures people, he/she is immediately held financially responsible. The normal cover against liability is up to an amount of € 500,000.
